Hazardous Media's World Wide Web Site was founded by CyberJanitors WEBSTAR (O.B. Babbs) and NETWIT (A.J. Catoline). The first phase of the site was to promote and market their documentary film: "Timothy Leary's Last Trip.......with Ken Kesey and the Merry Pranksters" The film is being distributed by Orion/Fox Lorber and comes out this fall, 1996.Soon, the web site launched into new avenues and popularity. The dying of Dr. Timothy Leary was attracting a large audience on the internet. Leary had been telling the press that the internet is "the next great revolution of the 90's." Hazardous Media decided to capture some of these great moments in history via-Video and Audio over the World Wide Web, offering moving image and sound.
On May 10, 1996, twenty days before Leary's death, Hazardous Media made cyber-history by hooking up Timothy Leary and Ken Kesey (author- "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest) in a three-hour video/audio cybercast conference! The event drew international audiences and heavy amounts of press coverage.
HIGHLIGHTS OF THE CONFERENCE can be seen on the Hazardous Media web site.
Next, Hazardous Media teamed up with Xing Technology, a company that manufactures hardware called a "Xing Encoder." The encoder takes an analog video signal and compresses it in real time while converting it to a digital signal to send out over the internet. The signal is made accessible to anyone, even a 14.4 modem user. In other words, users can now watch "T.V." over the internet.
In July 1996, Hazardous Media went to Toronto, Canada to broadcast the Eden Music Festival... a three-day outdoor rock concert featuring THE CURE and benefitting internet free speech. Hazardous Media cybercast the concert live to 60,000 viewers around the world.
Hazardous Media also operates in cooperation with internet developers, Sokol and Associates, in Venice CA, and Fish Interactive in Marina Del Ray.
