AT THE CHETRAPATI MARKET -- It is harvest time in Nepal, and to symbolize prosperity in the fields, the villagers wear bright colors. The women wear these colors and look exceptionally beautiful in their hand made gowns. In fact, the women in Nepal do everything. They sow the rice in the fields, and go to the market to buy "Dal" (lentils) and "Bhat" (collard greens) which they will put over cooked rice to serve to their children. Where are the men throughout all this? Sometimes watching the children, sometimes in the temple smoking and singing songs to Shiva...

Food is a fascinating thing in Nepal. Most of the menus in the tea houses are hand printed and I asked the difference between a double omlette and a singe omlette. The answer I got: "Single means one. Double means two." Fascinating.--->>
