Bratislava, Slovak Republic
Bratislava has entered the 20th century...
Above, on the left you see St. Martin's Cathedral, which was one of the first structures built in Bratislava in the 14th century. The walls surrounding the catherdral were the walls of the old town, and outside those walls was the traditional moat to keep out intruders. Now the moat has become a freeway thay speeds commuters to Budapest to the East, or to Vienna to the West.
How convenient that the freeway engineers didn't have to dig to build the freeway! The digging was done by Slav slaves hundreds of years ago!
It is amazing to see how this once medieval town has emerged as a modern city and even a city of the future.
