Welcome to Eastern Europe

"AHOY!"... or rather 'Ahoj!"... This is the word of welcome and hello in this land... Far across oceans, over hills and rivers, there is another world here. And through a small copper wire, the dawn of technology and communication is allowing it to be tranported through this cyber porthole as it is being seen and heard.... Welcome. Ahoj.

The place is Eastern Europe. Bratislava, the Slovak Republic. This town was once a part of Czechoslovakia.... In fact, let's go back further than that.... Slav tribes occupied the area of present day Slovakia which was the Slovak republic during the fifth century A.D. For a thousand years the country was a part of Hungary, ruled by Hungarian lord-bishops. When Budapest fell to the Turks in 1541, Bratislava became the capital of Hungary, but independence from Hungary only came after World War I, when Slovaks joined with the Czechs to form the Republic of Czechoslovakia.

Flash forward.... This country was occupied by the Nazis during World War II, and from then until 1989, Slovaks shared the same dismal fate as Czechs in communist Czechoslovakia.

And then in 1990, the Berlin wall fell and here was sparked the famed "Velvet Revolution..." The Slovaks were tired of being anything but thier own culture. Two years of being part of Czechoslovakia was not good enough. There was something special here that sparked an independent mind. On January 1, 1993, the Slovak Republic became it's own country...

It thrives here today.... And that is why Hazardous Media is here....
