The famous 'Wall of Death" in Auschwitz I where prisoners were lined up and shot on Gestapo orders... a much more merciful death than the gas chamber or the work fields.

The most compelling evidence of the horror that went on is Auschwitz is the testimony of those individuals who miraculously survived, overcoming tremendous odds of death; persevering by their spirit and their faith, the only vestage that their Nazi rulers could not imprison.

On the following pages are the words of Holocaust survivor HANA GREENFIELD, a native of a small town called Kolin in then Czechoslovakia. From 1939, she was imprisoned in several Nazi-built Jewish ghettos, camps, and eventually Auschwitz until she was given freedom by the liberating armies on April 15, 1945.

This text is from her book "FRAGMENTS OF MEMORY... from Kolin to Jerusalem," published by Gefen Books, copyright 1992.
